How to play Rook & Riddle

Rules

White moves first. Tap a white piece, then the square it should go to.
Checkmate the black king: attack it so it has no safe square and nothing can block or capture.
Mate in 2 or 3 means White mates within that many moves, whatever Black does. Black always picks the toughest defence.
A move that lets Black escape costs a life. You have three. The piece goes back so you can try again.

Controls

Tap a piece to see where it can go, then tap a dot. You can also drag it. A pawn reaching the far side lets you choose its promotion.

Later on

Mate in 2 (from level 10): the first move sets the trap.
Mate in 3 (from level 18): often the first move is quiet, not a check.

Stars: three with no slips and no hints, two with one, one otherwise. Hint shows the key move and plays it. The Daily Puzzle on the title screen is a new mate in 2 every day.
